A recent dessert variety that has had much success and will almost certainly become a firm favourite with UK gardeners. Just as its name promises, Apple ‘Scrumptious’ has a complex and mouth-watering flavour, with crisp, sweet flesh and thin, bright-red skins. Specially bred for garden conditions, it is self-fertile making it perfect for gardens with space for only one fruit tree. The blossom is frost resistant, ensuring a good crop of apples in September, which tend to stay on the tree until picked, rather than falling as they ripen. The fruits are best eaten fresh from the tree, but will keep until October once picked.
